Brazil national coach Carlo Ancelotti has been sentenced to a year in prison and a €386,000 fine by a Spanish court for tax fraud while coaching Real Madrid in 2014.

The court reported that Ancelotti failed to pay taxes on income earned from image rights, with an undeclared amount exceeding €1 million.

Prosecutors also alleged that he set up a shell company operating in the Virgin Islands to hide his real income.

Despite being sentenced to prison, he will not serve the sentence because Spanish law allows a reprieve for first-time offenders who have committed non-violent offenses under two years.

The case puts Ancelotti among world football figures being investigated by Spanish tax authorities, including Jose Mourinho, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
