The number of unemployed in Malaysia recorded a decrease to 522,400 in May 2025 compared to 525,900 people in April 2025.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) announced that the number of labor force increased by 0.2% to 17.38 million people, while the labor force participation rate remained stable at 70.8%.
Chief Statistician, Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin stated that the number of working population also increased by 0.3% to 16.86 million people from 16.82 million people in April 2025.
He also predicted that the labor market will continue to grow and remain stable with the support of government policies, economic stability and continuous investment in human capital development.
The unemployment rate for youth aged 15 to 24 years decreased to 10.2%, while the rate for the age group 15 to 30 years remained at 6.2%.
The number of unemployed people looking for work decreased by 0.5% to 416,400 people, while the inactive unemployed decreased by 1.2% to 106,000 people.
