Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will raise the issue of 25% import tariffs announced by United States (US) President Donald Trump in his meeting with US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio tomorrow.
Anwar stated that the US's unilateral action to impose tariffs will have a negative impact on Malaysia and the Southeast Asian region.
He also said that his party has sent a negotiating team to explain its position that Malaysia as a trading nation will be affected by the following tariffs.
Negotiations are still ongoing and if he meets Rubio, he will raise several issues to be considered before Trump makes a final decision.
The statement was recorded after the opening of the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) and Related Meetings at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
