Malaysians can now enjoy visa-free travel to China for short visits of up to 90 days within a 180-day period starting Thursday, following the official implementation of the Reciprocal Visa Waiver Agreement between Malaysia and China.
According to a statement from the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia, passport holders from both countries are allowed to enter, exit or transit without a visa, with a maximum limit of 30 days for each visit.
This facility covers tourism, family visits, business, cultural exchange, medical treatment, personal matters and transport crews.
However, individuals who plan to stay for more than 30 days or undertake activities such as work, study, media coverage or other matters that require prior approval are required to apply for a visa in advance.
Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced that the visa exemption period will be extended for five years, with the option to extend for another five years after that.
This facility was sealed during the official visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Kuala Lumpur last April, through the exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding visas between the two countries.
