President Donald Trump's nomination of conservative political commentator Nick Adams as the new US Ambassador to Malaysia has sparked controversy from various quarters.

The White House has proposed the 40-year-old writer to the Senate as an ambassadorial candidate, sparking concerns in Malaysia, where the population is predominantly Muslim and 'Pro-Palestinian'.

Nicks Adams, an Australian-born US citizen, has criticised efforts to teach Islamic subjects in schools and has also labelled individuals who express solidarity with the Palestinian people as supporters of terrorism.

Following this, the Youth Justice Force (AMK) was among those who voiced their protest in Malaysia.

AMK's International Relations Bureau, Arief Izuadin, in a statement explained Adams' background, which is alleged to be inclined towards extreme right-wing political ideology and divisive rhetoric that contradicts the principles of pluralism, tolerance and solidarity that form the basis of the unity of Malaysians.

In this regard, AMK plans to hold a demonstration in front of the US Embassy on Friday to protest Adams' nomination.

Meanwhile, MADANI Government Spokesperson and Communications Minister, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, said the Malaysian Cabinet had yet to receive any official memorandum from Wisma Putra regarding Adams' nomination as US Ambassador to Malaysia.

Fahmi said that normally the Cabinet would receive a memorandum from Wisma Putra regarding the appointment of any new ambassador or foreign representative.

However, analysts believe that the protest will shake diplomatic relations for both parties when the market is still worried about Donald Trump's imposition of a high 25% tariff on Malaysia.
