US President Donald Trump is suing the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), CEO Robert Thomson and Rupert Murdoch for $10 billion over allegations that he sent an obscene birthday letter to Jeffrey Epstein in 2003.
Trump has also filed a defamation lawsuit in Miami Federal Court against Murdoch, Dow Jones and News Corp, claiming the report caused him financial losses.
A Dow Jones spokesperson said the company was confident in the report and was determined to defend it against any lawsuit.
The lawsuit explained that the article did not mention whether the defendant had a copy of the letter and described the report as false to damage Trump's reputation.
The court also stressed that Trump must prove that the defendant acted with 'actual malice', either knowing the report was untrue or ignoring its truth.
The article reported that the letter contained Trump's signature to Epstein, a birthday greeting, sketches of nude women, and messages from other high-profile individuals.
