US President Donald Trump confirmed that Washington will send defensive weapons aid to Ukraine to help the country repel Russian attacks.
While at the White House, Trump said that Ukraine is facing great pressure from Moscow and that they need to be given the ability to defend themselves.
Previously, Trump said that Ukraine needs Patriot missiles, but did not repeat that statement specifically in his latest statement.
After a call with Donald Trump on Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said they agreed to improve Kyiv’s ability to defend its airspace in the wake of the escalating Russian attacks.
Zelenskyy also announced that discussions involve cooperation in defense production, arms purchases and investment between the two countries.
Ukraine is now actively asking Washington to supply more Patriot missile systems, which are considered essential in protecting major cities from Russian air attacks.
The US decision to halt some arms deliveries to Ukraine has sparked concerns in Kyiv that the move will undermine its capabilities on the battlefield.
Meanwhile, Germany announced that it is discussing purchasing Patriot systems for Ukraine as an effort to bridge the defense gap.
