Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) on Tuesday published a discussion paper seeking public feedback on a proposed regulatory framework for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the financial sector.

According to BNM, the paper outlines a proposed approach in regulating and developing AI, with the primary objective of improving outcomes for consumers and supporting national policy goals.

BNM Governor Datuk Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour in his speech at the MyFintech Week 2025 said they support innovations that bring real value to the economy and encourage the productive use of AI.

However, he also stressed that BNM will be vigilant against any developments that are risky or not within the appropriate safeguards, in order to maintain financial stability and public trust.

BNM is now inviting written feedback from the public and stakeholders on the issues raised, including alternative proposals or matters that require further clarification.

Each feedback must be accompanied by clear arguments, evidence or examples.

Feedback should be sent to aipolicy@bnm.gov.my no later than 17 October 2025.
