Canada has delivered 10 tons of humanitarian aid to Gaza and condemned the Israeli blockade as a violation of international law.
Foreign Minister Anita Anand and Defense Minister David McGuinty said Canada is taking this extraordinary step with international partners because access to aid to Gaza is extremely limited and increasingly critical.
According to them, despite the urgent need, implementing partners are facing difficulties in delivering food and medicine supplies by land due to the ongoing Israeli blockade.
Canada also called for immediate measures to facilitate aid to Gaza, including safe access, the opening of all border crossings, rapid customs clearance and the granting of long-term visas to aid workers.
The ministers also described the situation in Gaza as “extremely sad” and stressed that a massive increase in aid deliveries is urgently needed.
In a post on the X platform, the Israeli military announced that five other countries, namely the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Egypt, Belgium, Germany and Jordan, are also delivering aid to Gaza.
