Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will recognize the state of Palestine at the United Nations (UN) conference in September.
The announcement follows France's statement last week that it intends to recognize Palestine as a state.
The British government will do so if the conflict in Gaza is not stopped by the conference.
The move is also expected to increase pressure on the Israeli government led by Benjamin Netanyahu as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to escalate.
Carney also said the move depends on the Palestinian Authority's commitment to implementing reforms, including improving governance and holding elections in 2026 without Hamas involvement.
The situation in Gaza is increasingly critical with reports of deaths from starvation and deadly incidents as residents scrambled for food aid from UN trucks.
