Tesla CEO Elon Musk has threatened to sue Apple on behalf of his artificial intelligence (AI) startup xAI.

The move follows allegations that the iPhone maker favored OpenAI and violated antitrust rules in managing app rankings on the App Store.

The statement sparked a sarcastic reaction from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and sparked a row between two former business partners on the X platform.

In a statement on X, Musk claimed that Apple made it difficult for AI companies other than OpenAI to reach the top spot on the App Store, which was considered an antitrust violation and xAI would take immediate legal action.

Altman also responded to Musk's statement on X by describing the allegations as extraordinary because Musk was accused of manipulating X for personal gain and harming competitors.

Furthermore, Altman and Musk founded OpenAI in 2015, but Musk left the company in 2018 after his proposal to acquire OpenAI was rejected.

Musk has since sued OpenAI twice, while Altman has accused him of being a former partner jealous of the company's success.

Earlier this year, EU antitrust regulators ordered Apple to pay a €500 million ($81.15 million) fine for the company's restrictions on developers from steering users away from the App Store.
