Malaysia and Bangladesh have signed eight memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various strategic sectors.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Bangladesh's Chief Adviser, Prof Mohammad Yunus during his three-day official visit to Malaysia.
Among the important documents signed was the MoU on defence cooperation between Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Bangladesh's Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain.
The MoU on the supply and infrastructure of liquefied natural gas (LNG), petroleum products and related facilities was also signed by the Minister of Economy, Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan and the Bangladeshi Adviser, M Fouzul Kabir Khan.
In the education sector, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan signed an Exchange of Notes on cooperation in the training of diplomatic officers and higher education, representing the Minister of Higher Education Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir.
The halal ecosystem collaboration was sealed through an Exchange of Notes between the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Senator Zulkifli Hasan and the Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Investment, Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Harun.
The business sector was also strengthened through an MoU between MIMOS Services Sdn Bhd and the Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI).
In 2024, the total trade between Malaysia-Bangladesh will reach RM13.35 billion ($2.92 billion), recording an increase of 5.1% compared to the previous year.
