The Minister of Human Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Johari Abdul Ghani, stressed that Malaysia has never offered to export raw materials of rare earth elements (REE) in any trade tariff negotiations with the United States (US).
During the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) in the Dewan Rakyat, Johari said that this matter was emphasized by the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Tengku Zafrul Aziz on August 17.
Johari also stated that Malaysia did not offer to export raw REE as a condition for reducing tariff rates in trade negotiations with the US.
The statement was made when he was answering questions from Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar (PN-Kemaman), Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (PN-Kubang Kerian) and Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (PN-Machang).
The government is also committed to accelerating the development of the REE industry through collaboration with various parties including the state government.
So far, the government has not reached any agreement with any party because every decision must be taken carefully.
