The Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) has allocated RM8.4 million to supply Jalur Gemilang badges to be distributed to 5.14 million pupils and students in educational institutions.
This regulation follows a circular issued on March 24 by the Director-General of Education, Azman Adnan, which required pupils and students to wear a national flag badge measuring 5 cm x 2.5 cm on the right side of the chest.
The wearing of the Jalur Gemilang badge on students' clothing is an initiative by the MOE to foster patriotism and love for the country since school.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek announced that every student in schools, Matriculation Colleges, Form 6 Colleges and Teacher Education Institutes (IPG) will receive two Jalur Gemilang badges for free.
Fadhlina said the allocation was channeled last February to all State Education Departments (JPN) and related educational institutions with the distribution made according to the number of pupils and students.
He said the NRD was given permission to make procurements by zone to speed up the supply process and encourage supplier participation with 91 companies involved in supplying the badges nationwide.
The statement was made when he was answering a question from Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman (PN-Kuala Krai) regarding the cost of supplying the Jalur Gemilang badges to all students under the Ministry of Education.
This effort is in line with the Malaysian Education Development Plan (PPPM) 2013-2025 which emphasises the formation of identity and national values as the main thrust of student character development.
