Home Minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced that a total of 113,282 foreigners working in the plantation sector in Sabah have registered in the centralised digital data system.

Saifuddin said the data registration process by the state government is aimed at facilitating the direct monitoring, tracking and management of foreigners living and working in Sabah.

Saifuddin also stressed that this digital data collection activity for foreigners has nothing to do with the issue of citizenship or granting permanent residency.

The statement was made when he chaired the Sabah Foreigners Management Main Committee Meeting (JKPWAS-INDUK) and the Sabah Citizenship Status Special Committee Meeting (JKKSK).

He also added that the data collection process will be expanded to other sectors including agriculture, manufacturing, production and mining.

The meeting decided on a moratorium on enforcement to give foreign workers space to register in the digital data system to avoid any conflict between enforcement and data collection.
