As of January 2025, the cost of road repairs due to the Northeast Monsoon (MTL) floods has reached RM101.57 million.

Minister of Works, Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the amount includes road repairs in the peninsula of RM45.37 million, while in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan of RM56.2 million.

Nanta said the first wave of MTL in December last year recorded a total repair cost of RM312.1 million, comprising RM247 million for federal roads, RM40.3 million for federal road slopes and RM24.8 million for state roads.

Nanta also discussed the current cost of road repairs suspended by the government, estimated at between RM100 million to RM300 million depending on the scale of the disaster and the level of damage.

When asked about the appropriateness of the government to require contractors to use road construction materials that are more resilient to the effects of the weather.

He explained that so far, there is no official policy mandating the use of new building materials that are more weather-resistant.

However, the government is constantly evaluating and adapting the use of new materials and technologies according to the country's climate and technical needs.
