The Sabah government has allocated RM600,000 to help gig workers in the e-hailing sector open an Employees Provident Fund (EPF) account.
Sabah Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor stated that a total of 11,109 e-hailing workers have submitted applications to make the following contributions.
Hajiji also said that the initiative is aimed at helping e-hailing workers who have yet to open an EPF account.
The statement was made when he officiated the Sabah Moto Day 8.0 Program at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) yesterday.
He also informed that the state government is implementing various initiatives such as granting grants, training as well as innovation and entrepreneurship programs to ensure that Sabah's youth have a platform to grow.
The Youth Program Grant amounting to RM300,000 will be channeled to youth NGOs in the Tanjung Aru, Petagas and Tanjung Keramat State Assembly constituencies in the Putatan Parliament to benefit the local community.
Since 2021, the state government has spent RM1.33 billion, including RM848.26 million for education assistance and RM485 million for talent and skills development programs.
