The Sarawak Government on Saturday announced good news for all natives of the state when it took the initiative to provide free higher education to them starting next year.
This initiative involves 64 courses at four state government-owned universities, with an allocation of almost RM600 million.
Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee said that this move will greatly benefit local students who wish to further their studies in the state.
According to him, although Sarawak Premier, Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg never promised free higher education in any election, the government still implemented it as a sign of concern for the future of Sarawak's youth.
Speaking at the Sarawak Ministry of Women, Children and Community Wellbeing's Central Zone Tour Program, Dr Annuar stressed that this initiative is proof of the state government's determination to ensure that Sarawak's youth have access to quality education without being burdened by the cost of studying.
The four universities involved in this initiative are Universiti Teknologi Sarawak, Curtin University Malaysia, Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak and I-Cats University College.
