Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has reintroduced the Cahaya Merdeka Incentive 2025, which offers special electricity tariff rates to commercial customers for decorative lights in conjunction with the National Day celebration.
The programme runs from 1 August to 30 September 2025.
According to TNB, since the programme was reopened, 1,027 applications have been received as of 15 August, showing an encouraging response from commercial customers.
Last year, TNB received 1,863 applications under the same incentive.
This year's incentive has been enhanced in line with the new electricity tariff restructuring effective 1 July 2025, which introduces special rates for non-domestic customers:
28.91 sen/kWh (57% discount) for low voltage customers.
13.37 sen/kWh (45% discount) for medium voltage customers.
Eligibility is open to commercial customers such as skyscrapers, offices, shopping complexes, hotels and petrol stations under the general tariff and TOU (time of use) categories.
The conditions are that customers must have received electricity supply before 1 August 2024 and have at least one actual bill in May, June or July 2025.
Billing will be calculated based on the increase in consumption during the incentive period compared to the average of the previous three months, with the rebate reflected in the October 2025 bill under the label “Insentif Sinaran Merdeka”.
