Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has invited Thailand's new Prime Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, to visit Malaysia after he officially takes office.

In a Facebook post, Anwar announced that he had extended the invitation to Anutin via a phone conversation yesterday.

Anwar also said the visit was aimed at further strengthening good relations between the two neighbouring countries.

The meeting between the two leaders was held to discuss current developments on the Thai-Cambodian border in order to maintain peace and avoid any tension.

He also stressed that any related issues that arise must be resolved at the negotiating table through the Joint Border Committee (JBC) Meeting.

Malaysia believes that the spirit of dialogue, diplomacy and understanding is the best way to ensure regional peace and stability.

Anutin, 58, who leads the Bhumjaithai party, was officially sworn in as the 32nd Prime Minister of Thailand on September 7 after receiving royal assent, thus opening a new chapter in the country's political leadership.
