The MADANI government has announced a free MyKad replacement offer for individuals who have damaged chips, starting today until October 7.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced that replacements can be done at all National Registration Department (NRD) counters nationwide.
He also stressed that the government will fully bear the cost throughout the period to ensure that the people continue to have access to the BUDI95 subsidy without any technical disruption.
From January to August, a total of 294,715 MyKad replacement applications were received due to damaged chips or cards.
The application trend also showed a significant increase over the past three months, with 32,819 applications in June, 40,371 in July and 45,411 in August.
For the month of September to September 21, the NRD received 22,858 applications. Based on the average of the latest two months, the total replacements due to damaged chips were recorded at around 43,000 per month.
