Elon Musk officially launched Grokipedia on Monday as an alternative platform to Wikipedia. Grokipedia is powered entirely by artificial intelligence and focuses on delivering the ‘truth’ without editorial bias.
In a series of posts on X, Musk explained that Grokipedia is completely open source and can be used by anyone without payment.
The platform’s goal is to prioritize information accuracy. The launch was accompanied by an initial comparison between Grokipedia’s content and Wikipedia.
An X user found that an article about George Floyd on Grokipedia highlighted Floyd’s criminal record, while Wikipedia emphasized that he was killed by a white police officer.
The difference in narrative has reignited the debate about political bias on information platforms.
Grokipedia was also briefly shut down a few days ago. Musk said the launch was delayed to “clean up propaganda” on the platform. It reportedly suffered a temporary outage after the launch, but was back up and running shortly after.
So far, Grokipedia claims to have more than 885,000 articles in its database.
He also said that Grok has generated around 1 million articles through its massive computational capacity, and that AI will assess whether edit requests can be accepted or rejected.
Musk has previously criticized Wikipedia for allegedly having a left-wing political bias. Early content on Grokipedia also cited studies that claimed Wikipedia exhibited a bias against conservative figures.
At the same time, Wikipedia's article on Grokipedia has raised concerns that the new platform could potentially favor Musk's own perspective.
The comparison of content between the two platforms is expected to continue to be a hotly debated topic in the new AI-driven information battle.
