The Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs said Indonesia has lifted the suspension of TikTok's local operating license after the social media platform provided data requested by the government in connection with the recent series of protests.

The ministry explained that the app's operating license was temporarily suspended for failing to provide sufficient data regarding its use of its live streaming feature during anti-government protests in August.

TikTok provided the requested data on the same day, according to the ministry's Director General, Alexander Sabar.

A TikTok spokesperson declined to comment further, but the company has previously insisted that it always complies with the laws in each country where it operates.

Indonesia is the second-largest market for TikTok, owned by Chinese company ByteDance, with more than 100 million users.

The company has faced several challenges in operating in Indonesia.

In August, the app's live streaming feature was temporarily suspended following violent protests that erupted after a man was run over by a police vehicle.

Indonesia's antitrust agency on Monday imposed a fine of $900,000 (RM3.7 million) on TikTok for failing to notify authorities of its acquisition of e-commerce platform Tokopedia within a set period.
