A Hermes handbag once owned by British-French actress and singer Jane Birkin is set to be auctioned in Abu Dhabi on December 5.
Sotheby's said the bag, known as the Birkin Voyageur, has an estimated value of between $230,000 (RM972,900) and $430,000 (RM1.82 million).
The bag was gifted to Birkin by Helmes in 2003 and is one of four bags she owned after auctioning off her original to raise funds for AIDS charities in 1994.
Sotheby's explained that selling Birkin bags for charity is a tradition for Jane Birkin, and each time she does so, Hermes replaces the bag.
The first Birkin bag made specifically for sale was auctioned for almost €8.6 million (RM44.72 million) in Paris last July, making it the most expensive bag ever sold at auction.
The Birkin Voyageur is considered very special because it features a handwritten note in French by the actress on the inside of the bag.
The auction is also seen as an opportunity for collectors to own a personal item that is not only exclusive, but loaded with sentimental value and fashion history.
