The Malaysian medical device industry continues to perform strongly, recording a 31% increase in exports in 2024.
According to Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, the increase brought the value of overseas sales to around RM37 billion.
He stated that between 2021 and 2024, the sector has attracted domestic and foreign investments totaling RM20 billion, contributing approximately RM1.8 billion annually to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in addition to creating more than 130,000 highly skilled jobs.
Under the Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030), the medical device sector is recognised as a strategic growth catalyst that strengthens the country's investment value, strengthens the local supply chain, and makes Malaysia a world-class medical technology hub.
Among the key initiatives, Dr Dzulkefly mentioned the Regulatory Reliance Programme implemented with China and Singapore through the Medical Devices Authority (MDA).
The program allows MDA-approved devices to be registered through a simplified route in partner countries and vice versa, reducing duplication of processes and accelerating market access across borders.
