President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia has successfully conducted a test of a nuclear-powered underwater weapon system known as “Poseidon”.

The test came just days after the announcement of the successful test of the “Burevestnik” nuclear-powered missile.

The system is described as a sea-going drone capable of launching a nuclear warhead and creating a radioactive tsunami in coastal waters.

According to Putin, the test involved launching from a submarine as a carrier and activating the drone’s nuclear power unit, which he described as “unparalleled in the world”.

He added that the Poseidon system has capabilities that exceed those of Russia’s most advanced intercontinental ballistic missiles, including the “Sarmat”.

Russia claims that the drone can travel at speeds that are difficult to detect at depths and distances and has an “unlimited range” due to its nuclear power.

Although the technical details of the test have not been independently verified, the official statement reflects Russia’s emphasis on taking the next step in the nuclear power race.
