US-China Talks Still Tense? Trump Focuses on Rare Earths

President Trump has set the course for trade talks with China by demanding solutions to three key issues: rare earths, fentanyl, and soybeans.

The move comes as Trump signs a deal with Australia to bolster US supplies of critical minerals, seen as an effort to reduce reliance on China.

While Trump has previously described high tariffs on Chinese goods as unsustainable, trade relations between the two countries remain tense ahead of his meeting with President Xi Jinping.

China has accused the US of stoking panic over rare earth export controls, while Trump has threatened an additional 100% tariff starting November 1 if Beijing does not back down.

Meanwhile, the US budget deficit has fallen on the back of rising tariff collections, and the Supreme Court is set to hear a challenge to Trump's tariff policies that could determine the future of his strategy.
