The MADANI government will introduce additional security features in the form of QR codes on MyKad for the new generation.

This modification to the identity card will allow authorities to verify the authenticity of each MyKad more easily.

Deputy Home Minister Shamsul Anuar Nasarah announced that verification via QR code is intended to reduce the risk of counterfeiting and misuse of MyKad, in line with modern security standards.

He also stated that the government has approved new contracts for the supply of MyKad, MyTentera and MyPoca cards.

Shamsul Anuar also said that the National Registration Department (JPN) will be able to process applications to change information on MyKad, depending on the type of change requested.

The new MyKad will be introduced from June 1 next year.

The ministry is currently examining the proposal by Willie Mongin (GPS-Puncak Borneo) for Bumiputera status and religion to be printed on the new MyKad.

The request arose following a recent incident when a bank employee allegedly insulted a Sarawak Bumiputera citizen by openly questioning his religious status.
