Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government opposed the establishment of a Palestinian state, ahead of a vote by the United Nations Security Council (UN).

The action directly demonstrated Israel's strong opposition to the resolution supporting the Gaza peace plan recognized by the United States (US).

During a Cabinet Meeting yesterday, Netanyahu stressed that Israel remains firmly opposed to the establishment of a Palestinian state in any territory.

The peace plan was drafted following a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas brokered by US President Donald Trump.

The plan also allows for the formation of a transitional administration and the deployment of international security forces in the region.

Unlike previous drafts, the latest resolution document mentions the possibility of the formation of a Palestinian state in the future, something that has received strong opposition from Israel.

Netanyahu has previously been criticized by coalition members, including Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who claimed that he failed to respond to the latest wave of Western recognition of Palestine's status as a state.

Other ministers also voiced opposition to the establishment of a Palestinian state, although none specifically referred to the resolution.

In a statement on the X platform yesterday, Israeli Defense Minister Katz stated that Israel’s policy is clear, namely that the establishment of a Palestinian state will not be allowed.

In a post on X, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar expressed a similar view, stressing that Israel “will not agree to the establishment of a Palestinian state on Israeli territory.”
