The Malaysian banking industry is urging customers to update their web browsers and mobile device operating systems to reduce the risk of increasingly sophisticated cyber threats and financial fraud.
The call was made by member banks of the Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) and the Association of Islamic Banking and Financial Institutions Malaysia (AIBIM), following concerns that older versions of devices and browsers are increasingly vulnerable to malware and security exploits.
According to the banking industry, software updates allow users to receive the latest security patches, thus strengthening the protection of bank accounts from cyber attacks and cyber fraud activities.
Outdated Devices More Risky
Banks have warned that devices or web browsers that are using older versions or are no longer supported by developers will no longer receive important security updates. This situation makes users more vulnerable to malware and digital fraud.
Customers using older devices are encouraged to consider upgrading to newer models to ensure they continue to receive regular security updates.
