China launched a 10-hour live-fire drill around Taiwan on Tuesday.

The drill, which entered its second day, is aimed at demonstrating its ability to sever Taiwan's ties with outside support in the event of conflict.

The Eastern Theater Command said the simulation would last until 6 p.m. (1000 GMT) and would involve airspace and sea areas in five key locations around the country.

Chinese authorities said the drills demonstrated China's determination to combat separatist movements and promote unification without hesitation.

China's Maritime Security Administration on Tuesday designated two additional firing zones, making the drills, dubbed "Mission Justice 2025," the largest in a series of exercises so far.

The war games began 11 days after the United States announced an $11.1 billion arms package to Taiwan.

The move angered China's Defense Ministry, which warned that its military would take "strong measures" against Taiwan in response.

A senior Taiwanese security official said it was closely monitoring China's actions for any further provocations, including the possibility of missile launches across Taiwan's airspace, as occurred during China's 2022 exercises.

The Chinese military confirmed that it had ordered destroyers, bombers and other units to practice sea attacks, air defense, and anti-submarine operations to test the readiness of its sea and air assets.
