The Walt Disney Company announced yesterday a $1 billion investment in OpenAI and will allow users to create videos using the Sora app.
OpenAI launched Sora in September, which allows users to create their own short videos just by typing.
As part of a new three-year license agreement with Disney, Sora users will be able to create content with more than 200 characters from Disney, Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars starting next year.
Disney CEO Bob Iger said that the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) marks a significant moment for the industry and that by working with OpenAI, storytelling can be developed responsibly while respecting the rights of creators.
Meanwhile, Disney is now using OpenAI’s chatbot, ChatGPT, to develop new tools and experiences for its employees.
At the same time, Disney sent a letter of complaint to Google on Wednesday after claiming that the company infringed on copyright by using Disney’s works to train artificial intelligence (AI) models and distributing unauthorized copies of the content.
Since its introduction by ChatGPT, Sora has sparked controversy as users flooded the platform with videos featuring popular characters and brands.
