The Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) is currently reconsidering the implementation of the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loan repayment exemption for First Class Bachelor's Degree graduates.

The initiative involves graduates from private higher education institutions (IPTS) who belong to the B40 and M40 groups.

Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Mustapha Sakmud explained that the mechanism for implementing the proposed loan repayment exemption for the IPTS category still needs to be detailed.

He also stated that previously the model used included students from IPTS, but now it only involves public higher education institutions (IPTA), and focuses on the B40 and M40 groups only.

The statement was made when he was answering a supplementary question from Tan Kar Hing (PH-Gopeng) on the proposal to expand the implementation of loan repayment exemptions to IPTS students.

Meanwhile, a total of 911,788 PTPTN borrowers from families receiving the Sumbang Tunai Rahmah (STR) have successfully completed loan repayments totaling RM13.89 billion as of 31 October.

In addition, a total of 450,522 borrowers from the same category have successfully made consistent repayments worth RM4.17 billion.

A total of 196,315 borrowers from families not receiving the STR and with a monthly income not exceeding RM8,000 have loan repayment arrears totaling RM257.56 million.
