Malaysia's Unemployment Rate Remains at 3% in October – DOSM

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) reported that the unemployment rate in October 2025 remained stable at 3%, involving a total of 518,900 unemployed.


Chief of Statisticians, Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin stated that the country's labour market continued to show improvement, supported by buoyant economic activity, strong employment growth and the unemployment rate remaining low.


He also explained that the labour force increased by 0.2% to 17.58 million people in October, with the participation rate remaining at 70.9%, the same as recorded in September 2025.


Meanwhile, the number of employed people also continued to increase in October 2025, increasing by 0.2% to 17.06 million people compared to 17.03 million people in the previous month.


The number of unemployed people recorded a slight increase of 0.1% to 518,900 people compared to 518,600 people in September 2025.


In October, the employed category comprised 74.8% of the total working population, increasing slightly by 0.1% to 12.76 million people compared to 12.74 million people in the previous month.


At the same time, the number of people working less than 30 hours a week continued to decline, decreasing by 1.4% to 233,200 people in October 2025 from 236,500 people in the previous month.


Malaysia's labour market prospects are expected to remain positive and resilient in the future, supported by moderate economic growth, strategic investments and human capital development.
