I still remember the first day I pressed the “Buy” button in 2018. My hands were shaking, but my heart was full of hope. With about RM1,529 of small savings that I had accumulated little by little, I stepped into the world of trading without knowledge, without a teacher, without anyone to advise me. Two years later, everything was gone. My account was empty. My enthusiasm was gone.
I tried to stop. But every night, I imagined the opportunity I had missed. The year 2022 arrived, and I made the hardest decision of my life. I sold all my wife’s gold. Bracelets, chains, rings, each of them had a story, a memory. “I promise I will double it,” I told her. She smiled, but I knew she was worried. I was worried too.
Finally, I got capital of around RM18,172. But the market showed its fangs again. Within a few months, the money dwindled to only RM 136. When I saw that number, my chest felt empty. But from some unknown source, I tried again. One small trade. Then another. Little by little, the RM 136 came back to life until it became RM 7,434. I felt like I had risen.
But the market never sleeps. Fall after fall made me fall back to RM 215. Every few weeks, my wife would ask, “When are you going to return the gold?” I would look at her face, and every time I would be speechless.
But one thing I knew, I wouldn’t stop. Not until the gold was back in her hands. What’s worse, the price of gold was getting more expensive. Hopefully, I could replace my wife’s jewelry.
