Perodua has launched its first battery electric vehicle (EV), the QV-E, as a significant step in developing a more sustainable EV ecosystem in Malaysia.
At the launch, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed his delight at the rapid progress of the project, stressing that this success was driven by the intelligence, discipline and hard work of local talent.
In the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 announced on 1 September 2023, Perodua was appointed as the leader of the local automotive industry in developing the country’s electric vehicle ecosystem.
Perodua is currently working with local vendors to increase component localization to over 50% by early 2026, and further to 70% by 2030. Currently, 52 local suppliers are involved in the production of QV-E components, with a target of increasing to 70 vendors within five years.
Under the coordination of the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, as well as the support of various government agencies, Perodua successfully completed the development of its first EV in just 28 months. Zainal said government support played a major role in accelerating the transformation of the local EV ecosystem while ensuring that quality, reliability and digital technology standards continue to be improved.
The QV-E is targeted at the middle-income group and above, including second-car buyers or those looking for a replacement vehicle for daily use and weekend trips.
Perodua also introduced the “Battery as a Service” battery leasing concept, where customers buy the car without a battery, while the battery is offered through a subscription. This approach aims to reduce owners’ concerns about the cost and durability of the battery.
Through this model, Perodua offers a lifetime warranty on the battery, providing greater peace of mind to consumers.
The QV-E is offered in two color options, namely Ice Blue and Caviar Grey, and can only be purchased at selected Perodua branches.
It is also equipped with a 52.5kW lithium iron phosphate battery with a driving range of up to 445km based on the NEDC standard, depending on driving style as well as weather and road conditions.
This model also offers the latest safety features, including a Child Presence Detection system that warns if there are children or pets in the vehicle.
The system is capable of detecting movement and vital signs such as breathing in the second row of seats and the footwell.
