US President Donald Trump has expressed concern over the proposed $72 billion merger of two popular streaming platforms, Netflix and Warner Bros Discovery Inc.

He also said that the move risks raising issues of centralization of power in the streaming industry.

Trump also confirmed that he had met with Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos to discuss the deal, which includes the acquisition of Warner Bros, HBO and the HBO Max streaming service.

The statement was made to reporters while attending the Kennedy Center Honors event in Washington yesterday.

Meanwhile, Trump stressed that he would be directly involved in the approval process of the deal, which is expected to undergo a thorough review by the US Department of Justice.

The deal announced last Friday does not include channels such as CNN and TNT, which are currently owned by Warner Bros Discovery.

If approved, it would give Netflix access to a vast catalog of iconic series including the Harry Potter franchise, Game of Thrones, The Matrix, and The Lord of the Rings.

According to analysts, this merger has the potential to change the global entertainment landscape with Netflix further strengthening its position as a major leader in the streaming market.

To date, Netflix and Warner Bros Discovery have yet to issue any official statements regarding Trump's comments.
