United States (US) President Donald Trump yesterday announced plans to build two new warships that will be the most powerful and largest ever built by the country.
Trump also explained that the ships will be the fastest and most powerful with up to 100 times the capacity of previously built warships.
He also announced that each ship will have a displacement of between 30,000 to 40,000 tons or more, thus serving as the flagship of the US Navy fleet.
The statement was delivered to the media along with US Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth and Secretary of the Navy, John Phelan in Palm Beach, Florida.
Trump also stated that the warships will be among the most feared surface combat assets because they are equipped with hypersonic weapons and nuclear-tipped cruise missiles that are currently in the development phase.
Meanwhile, Hegseth said the announcement of the formation of the ‘Golden Armada’ led by the new warship signaled a long-term commitment to US maritime power.
Phelan said the warship, named USS Defiant, would be the largest, deadliest, most versatile naval asset with unparalleled design excellence in the world.
