Elon Musk’s Grok AI is now banned from editing photos of individuals into embarrassing or indecent images, after receiving strong pressure from several countries including the United Kingdom and the United States.

The change was announced shortly after California authorities revealed an investigation into the spread of sexual deepfakes, including those involving children.

According to an official statement on the X platform, Grok has been reprogrammed to prevent any attempts to change images of real people into sexually revealing clothing.

The restriction applies to all users, including paid customers.

X also clarified that only paid users are allowed to use Grok’s image editing features, as an additional measure to increase accountability and prevent abuse.

Any attempts to generate images of individuals in embarrassing situations will be blocked in accordance with the user’s local laws.

Malaysia and Indonesia have previously blocked access to Grok following issues related to the AI images.

Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer warned that X risks losing its self-regulatory rights if it fails to address the problem.

UK media regulator Ofcom also confirmed it was investigating whether X breached laws relating to sexual content in the country.
