Who is the Next Fed Chair Candidate?

US President Donald Trump is expected to announce his nominee for the new Federal Reserve (Fed) Chair in the coming days.

Rick Rieder of BlackRock has emerged as the leading choice based on the latest market predictions, attracting the attention of global investors.

Rieder, who has decades of investment experience, is seen as having the potential to ease financial market concerns following Trump's continued pressure on the Fed.

The tension includes an attempt to fire Fed Governor Lisa Cook and the threat of legal action that has forced Fed Chairman Jerome Powell and other senior officials to publicly defend the institution's independence.

The shortlist of candidates for the next Fed Chair includes Rick Rieder, Kevin Warsh, Kevin Hassett and Christopher Waller.

Of the names, only Christopher Waller is a current Fed governor.

If Trump chooses a candidate other than Waller, he will first need to nominate the individual as Fed governor, likely to replace Stephen Miran, whose term ends this month.

This factor explains why a final decision is expected to be made soon, especially if it involves candidates from outside the Fed.

Previously, the market saw Kevin Hassett and Kevin Warsh as the most likely candidates, with Hassett leading the market forecast at the end of 2025.

However, in recent days, market sentiment has changed significantly as support for Rick Rieder surged on Kalshi’s market forecast platform, making him the most watched candidate for the top US monetary policy post.
