The Indonesian government is now beginning preliminary preparations to send 8,000 troops to participate in the peacekeeping mission in Gaza.

The move is in line with the vision of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in strengthening the country's influence in global security.

The Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army, General Maruli Simanjuntak, announced that the plan is still seen as temporary with the number and duration of the deployment of troops depending on coordination within the military leadership chain.

In a statement yesterday, the assignment will reportedly give priority to medical and engineering units.

The statement was delivered during a leadership meeting session with military and police personnel chaired by Prabowo in Jakarta.

Recently, Indonesia has increased diplomatic efforts regarding the Palestinian issue to stabilize the conflict in Gaza through participation in the peacekeeping mission.

During the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in September last year, Prabowo stated that Indonesia was ready to send more than 20,000 peacekeepers to ensure safety and security in Gaza.
