McDonald’s Malaysia is currently planning to invest RM1 billion to open 100 new restaurants.
The strategic move is being implemented to modernize existing branches and strengthen digital capabilities over the next five years.
McDonald’s Malaysia Managing Director and Local Operating Partner, Dato Azmir Jaafar, informed that the investment reflects the company’s long-term vision in building a local workforce, as well as continuing to expand its restaurant network nationwide.
He stated that RM600 million is allocated to open new restaurants, RM200 million to renovate and modernize more than 150 existing McDonald’s Malaysia branches and another RM200 million for technology and digitalization initiatives.
According to Azmir, McDonald’s will continue to strengthen its position in Sabah and Sarawak, as well as throughout Peninsular Malaysia, especially in areas with high demand and tourist locations.
McDonald’s Malaysia sees significant growth potential in Sabah and Sarawak as there are still many areas that do not yet have a McDonald’s restaurant.
The company will also continue to expand its branches in the Klang Valley and other high-growth locations.
At the same time, they also have plans to expand their franchise network from the current 25 branches to 70 to 100 restaurants in the next 5 to 10 years.
This branch expansion is expected to create more than 10,000 new jobs for Malaysians, in line with the company’s key policy of employing 100% local workers.
The opening of each restaurant branch acts as a catalyst for the local economy, generating overall employment opportunities.
This positive impact extends beyond our internal operations, encompassing various support sectors including logistics, renovation works, equipment supply, as well as cleaning and security services.
To date, the popular fast food chain has operated over 370 restaurants nationwide and recorded a compound annual growth rate of 26% in 2025, despite facing various business challenges.
