TikTok has announced that the platform will introduce a Platform Support Fee of RM0.50, or RM0.54 after SST, which will be charged on every successful sale starting February 15, 2026.
The fee will be charged for every item successfully shipped to the buyer, regardless of the sale price, and will be in addition to the existing fee structure that sellers on the platform have been charged.
TikTok also clarified that items that have been shipped but cancelled or returned are still subject to the fee. Instead, only purchases that are cancelled before delivery are eligible for a refund.
This move is seen as the platform's effort to cover its operating costs, system maintenance and e-commerce infrastructure support, in line with the rapid growth of transactions and the increasing number of active sellers on the platform.
In a related development, Shopee also previously introduced a similar platform support fee, effective July 16, 2025, thus reflecting a new trend in the local e-commerce landscape.
The implementation of this fee is expected to have a direct impact on the profit margins of small and medium-sized merchants, especially those operating with low sales volumes and thin margins.
At the same time, it has the potential to encourage sellers to review their pricing strategies, operating costs and logistics efficiency to maintain competitiveness in an increasingly competitive market.
Overall, this move reflects the changing cost structure in the e-commerce industry, where platforms are now more focused on operational sustainability and long-term revenue generation, in line with increasing competition and technology support costs.
