The Malaysian government has announced a 50 percent toll discount in conjunction with this year's Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration as a measure to ease the cost of people's travel.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that the initiative is aimed at helping people who return to their hometowns to celebrate the festival with their families.

This discount involves a financial implication of RM21.03 million which will be borne by the government as compensation to the highway concessionaire.

The implementation of the discount will begin at 12.01 midnight, March 18, 2026, and end at 11.59 pm, March 19, 2026. This period is expected to cover the peak phase of traffic movement ahead of the Aidilfitri celebration.

This initiative applies to Class 1 private vehicles on all major highways nationwide, but does not involve toll payments at certain plazas that are not under the major highway concession.

This move is seen as part of the government's ongoing efforts to reduce the burden of the people's cost of living, especially during festive periods which usually see an increase in household spending.

At the same time, this toll discount is expected to help smooth the flow of traffic by reducing congestion at toll plazas, thus speeding up the journey of highway users.
