The Iranian government has announced a minimum wage increase of over 60% after a series of anti-government protests erupted among the people to protest the deteriorating economic situation.

The main reason for the protests was the rising cost of living and the depreciation of the country's currency.

Iran adjusts the minimum wage every year to compensate for the soaring inflation rate under international sanctions, especially as tensions between Tehran and the United States (US)-Israel escalate.

Iran's Labor Minister announced that the monthly minimum wage will be increased from 103 million to 166 million rials in the new Persian calendar year that will begin in a few days.

The statement was reported by the Iranian news agency, Tasnim.

At the same time, the government also announced a similar increase in child support benefits.

The initiative demonstrates the government's commitment to preserving the welfare of the people despite facing economic pressure and ongoing external threats.
