A commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that any ship trying to pass through the Strait of Hormuz will be attacked, according to Iranian state media.
Ebrahim Jabari, Senior Advisor to the Supreme Commander of the IRGC, said that the Revolutionary Guard and the navy will burn ships passing through the strait.
Iran described the closure of the strait as an important step to stop world energy production, in response to the US-Israeli attack on Iran.
The move is seen as retaliation for the deaths of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior officials.
According to Jabari, Iran will also attack oil pipelines and will not allow a drop of oil to leave the region, pushing oil prices to $200 in the coming days.
He also stressed that the US people, who are currently burdened with trillions of dollars in debt and are completely dependent on oil supplies from the region, should realize that no supplies will be channeled to them.
The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, is one of the world's most critical oil transit routes, with about 20% of global oil supply passing through it.
Any disruption there would send crude oil prices soaring and raise concerns about rising regional prices.
