The move was made to determine the cause of the incident and ensure the safety of Thai merchant ships passing through the strategic waterway.
In a related development, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said and admitted that the ship was shot down by Iranian fighters.
The statement was published by the Tasnim News Agency, thus raising new tensions in the world's most important energy trade route.
