The Ministry of Finance (MOF) is looking into implementing a more targeted diesel subsidy mechanism, like BUDI95, for Sabah and Sarawak, according to MADANI Government Spokesperson Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
He explained that this matter is currently under review by the MOF before any decision can be finalized. The proposal to coordinate diesel subsidies between Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia has not yet been discussed in the Cabinet meeting so far.
The Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, on March 28, said that the proposal to implement a targeted diesel subsidy mechanism would be brought for discussion with the Sabah and Sarawak state governments before it is implemented.
Crude Oil Supply Stable in May and June
Regarding the global supply market situation, Fahmi said the government is always monitoring the movement of world crude oil prices in determining the next steps regarding the country's fuel subsidy policy, including BUDI95 and BUDI Diesel.
Fahmi, who is also the Minister of Communications, also stated that the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) had informed that the crude oil supply by Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) was at a satisfactory level for May and June.
Yesterday, Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir stated that the prolonged supply disruption caused the restoration of crude oil supply to be expected to take between three and 12 months, while the repair of damaged oil and gas infrastructure would take longer.
He informed that the average price of Brent crude oil (spot) in the global market had decreased by 6.7 percent to US$109.94 per barrel for the period 20 to 24 April 2026, compared to US$117.84 per barrel in the previous week.
However, a comparison of prices at the beginning and end of the week showed an increase of 6.5 percent
