Pontian MP, Ahmad Maslan explained that the proposal to postpone the Johor and Melaka State Elections (PRN) is a personal view, not an official party decision.
He, who is also an UMNO Supreme Council Member, stated that the view was made based on experience in party leadership, particularly regarding the importance of the time factor in determining political decisions.
Earlier, he was reported to intend to bring the proposal to postpone the PRN to the Supreme Working Council Meeting (MKT) scheduled to be held in the near future, following the geopolitical developments in West Asia which are still uncertain.
According to him, the current situation influenced by global instability and pressure on the people's cost of living is seen as less suitable for the implementation of elections in the near future.
He also advised the government not to do something important like the PRN when the people's emotions are at a negative level following the increase in the price of diesel and basic necessities.
In the current context, he believes that the people's sentiment is still affected by various economic issues and the cost of living which could affect the overall atmosphere if the elections are held in the near future.
