Recently, Malaysia has targeted to develop comprehensive AI development by 2030 as the foundation for various economic sectors in the future.

Digital Minister, Gobind Singh Deo, said that the government wants to focus on preparing the country for the advancement of AI which is now growing faster than ever.

He also said that it not only involves the technology and data center aspects, but also involves efforts to provide a workforce and support systems that can drive the country's digital economy.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that Malaysia has a vision to implement an AI nation by 2030. Therefore, within a five-year period, we will see whether Malaysia can achieve a country that is developed in AI technology and is truly ready for AI.

"An AI-ready nation is not just about infrastructure, but also talent and how we develop this new ecosystem," he said during the launch of the NEXTDC KL1 data center here, today.

Gobind said that Malaysia's digital economy is growing as its contribution to GDP from 23.3 percent in 2023 to 25.5 percent in 2025. Therefore, the government is now targeting the contribution of the digital economy to reach 30 percent by 2030.

The government expects AI technology to drive almost all sectors in the future, thus requiring a new approach to ensure the country is ready to face the changes.

Therefore, the government is now focusing on developing an AI ecosystem that is safe and ready for the next generation of technology. At the same time, the government is now shifting its focus from 5G development to AI readiness, including the development of data centers as the main foundation of the technology.

He also said that Malaysia also has great potential to emerge as a regional digital economy hub given that ASEAN now has almost 690 million people.
